It was interesting. While reading The Open Curtain, which tells the (fictional) story of a troubled Mormon teenager, I had two Mormons come to my door this weekend. I didn't invite them in as I have before, but I had to wonder at these freckle-faced guys just out of high school, and the brutal violence that Evenson portrays. It didn't seem to fit.

Though editors rarely receive their props, they are an integral and crucial aspect of any film piece. Editors are often responsible for the visceral "feel" within a film. This comes via attention to timing, placement, and juxtaposition alongside the dialogue and soundtrack. Endless hours of footage are sifted through and perfectly placed in order to create the perfect moment. There is no question its validity as an art form.

We all have an impression of the Beat Poets, but rarely do we associate religion with beat poetry. But maybe beat poetry and the story of Jesus have a simbiotic relationship. Lawrence Ferlinghetti's poem Sometime During Eternity is lent a certain classical authority because of its subject matter (which in some ways the Beat Poets were trying to cast off, so I don't know if that would be see as a positive for Ferlinghetti necessarily), which the story of Jesus, after being told over and over again in the same manner in our culture, also seems to benefit for Ferlinghetti's 'hipsterized' retelling.
