I like rhythm and routine. I like knowing the plan. Better yet, I like making the plan. My friends and family could tell you some of the neurotic symptoms of this type of personality, but one of the benefits is the margin that allows for reflection. Rhythm and routine generally allow for time to look around, pay attention, notice how things connect.

It's been a month at least since I've had that kind of margin. I'm currently experiencing the type hectic pace that is probably normal to a lot of people, but that quickly makes me aware of how much I like being in control. There's probably a lesson somewhere here... I'm just too busy to learn it.

So in the spirit of the busy, hectic, and unexamined life, here are a few of the random things that have caught my eye during the past few weeks.

Michael Clayton. Anyone else seen this film? Anyone else think George Clooney is a good looking man? One of the best films of the year.  Great story and acting.

Blade Runner: The Final Cut. Anything that has "the final cut" in the title has to be awesome. My friend and I drove into the city to see this new release of Ridley Scott's 1982 adaptation of Philp Dick's sci-fi novel. The story takes place in 2019. Apparently in the next twelve years we will be in a perpetual rain storm. On the upside, Pan Am and Atari are going to make huge comebacks and we'll all be driving sweet hover cars. Unfortunately, computers will devolve significantly from what we currently have. Laptops and iphones? Forget it.

The Office. Why are Michael Scott and company so addictive? I don't think it's just the horribly uncomfortable yet hilarious situations that the writers and actors get right. I think the cast of The Office are some of the most human characters on television. Given the genre and content of the show, the humanity that pops up every week continues to surprise...and please.

Iron and Wine on World Cafe. Bob reviewed Sam Beam's latest a couple weeks ago on this site. I'm putting Shepherd's Dog on my top-5 thus far in 2007 list. And for sure I'm saying that Resurrection Fern is the most beautiful song of the year. Take a listen to this short interview with Beam on World Cafe . In addition to talking about the new album he also plays 4 songs, including Resurrection Fern.

OK- back to the hecticness. All for now.
